SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah softball team held an intrasquad scrimmage Friday afternoon at Spence Eccles Fieldhouse.
"Practice has been great," Utah's third-year head coach Amy Hogue said. "We were able to get outside for a couple of days, which doesn't always happen. We got enough reps on the dirt that the kids feel pretty settled going into our first trip. Since we have an all-Utah native infield, it's less nerve-wracking because they're used to practicing inside and then transitioning to outdoor ball. Being able to play outside was a big boost to our energy. But overall, they look sharp and are excited to get the season started. "
For a more detailed look at the team, please look back at utahutes.com's five-part preview that appeared this week:

"We've been practicing for a while now," Hogue said. "We're anxious to play. It's time for us to play somebody beside ourselves. We've gone through everything. The kids know exactly what their roles are. They're excited to play so now it's just a matter of waiting."
The Utes open their season next week, Friday, Feb. 12 at the Red Desert Classic in St. George, Utah. First pitch of the opener against San Jose State is set for 11 a.m.
