SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team continues its preseason road stretch in Oregon against Oregon State and Portland at OSU's annual spring tournament, beginning with a game with each team on Friday, March 12. The first game against Portland begins at 2:00 p.m. PT.
The Utes are coming off a solid win to close out their series against Washington State and hope to continue that progress in the upcoming series.
"We finally played a little better on Sunday and I think it all started with Rick (Anton) and his command and control of the game," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We also missed C.J. (Cron) on Friday and Saturday and when he came back he couldn't run very well, but he hit a home run and a double on Sunday. That series is going to help us prepare in the future. We're still trying to map out our lineup and get guys settled in.
"It's another really tough weekend coming up. Four games in three days will be taxing on our pitching staff again but that's good at this point. Oregon State is a top-20 team and is expected to challenge for the Pac-10 championship. It's nice to play two teams during the weekend instead of playing one all four games. This will be a great atmosphere and I hope we play well."
Oregon State is ranked in all four major polls, ranking 12th in the Collegiate Baseball poll. Portland is 9-2 to start the season.
