SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (4-9) fell to the No. 58-ranked University of San Diego (8-6), 5-2, Saturday at the Eccles Tennis Center.

Utah took an early lead capturing the doubles point sweeping the Toreros. Utah's No. 1 team of Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding started the day topping Nikola Bubric and Charl Wolmarians, 8-4. Benito Suriano and Stephen Jacobs clinched the doubles point from the No. 3 slot defeating Abdullah Hashem and Nils Schive, 8-5. The No. 2 Ute duo of Jason Smits and Timmy Allin captured the Utah doubles sweep topping Casey Powers and Thibaut Visy, 8-4.

The Toreros answered with three wins from the Nos. 4, 5 and 6 positions. Jacobs fell to Hashem, 7-5, 7-6(5), at the No. 6 slot, Allin was defeated by Schive, 2-6, 6-4, 6-1, at the No. 4 spot and Suriano fell to Powers at the No. 5 position, 7-6(4), 6-3.

In the No. 1 spot Eilers topped Bubric, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4. With the match at 2-3 in favor of San Diego the Toreros clinched the match from the No. 2 slot, Smits was defeated by Wolmarians, 6-4, 2-6, 6-4. Golding fell to Visy, 6-4, 4-6, 6-4, at the No. 3 spot closing the match at, 5-2.

Utah hosts Cornell Tuesday, March 23 at the Eccles Tennis Center beginning at 12 p.m.
