COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Utah senior Nik Gumeson has been named Mountain West Conference Player of the Week. This is the first career weekly honor for Gumeson.
Gumeson hit .571 (8-for-14) with two home runs, two runs scored and three runs batted in as Utah took two of three games from New Mexico over the weekend. In the 16-2 series-opening win on Friday, the Riverton, Utah, native went 4-for-5 with a home run, one run scored, one walk, one stolen base and two RBI. He followed that with a 2-for-4 effort and another stolen base in Saturday's 5-2 loss. In Sunday's series finale, Gumeson went 2-for-5, homering once and tallying one run scored and one RBI as the Utes pulled out the 9-8 victory in 10 innings.
For the week, Gumeson posted a .625 on-base percentage and 1.000 slugging percentage while collecting 14 total bases. Defensively, he registered four putouts without any errors from his outfield position.
Utah is 9-8 on the year. The Utes play their first home game on Monday, March 22, against Utah Valley at 6:00 p.m. MT at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
