SALT LAKE CITY- The University of Utah men's tennis team (5-10) defeated New Mexico State (10-4), by a score 4-3, Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center.
In doubles play, senior Phillip Eilers and freshman Alex Golding fell to Orlando Superlano and Jim Brouleau, 8-3, at the No. 1 position.
Seniors Timmy Allin and Jason Smits topped Eduardo Salas and Arthur Surreaux at the No. 2 spot, 8-3.
Sophomore Benito Suriano and junior Stephen Jacobs defeated Gustave Diep and Luis Ramirez, 8-5, at the No. 3 spot, securing the doubles point for the Utes.
In singles play, Eilers downed Brouleau at the No. 1 position, 6-4, 6-3, winning Utah's second point.
Allin topped Ramirez, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 5 position, giving the Utes their third point.
Jacobs defeated Salas at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-3, earning Utah's fourth point.
Suriano was topped Surreaux at the No. 2 position, 2-6, 6-4, 6-3.
Smits was defeated by Diep, 6-3, 6-3, at the No. 3 spot.
Golding fell to Superlano in a three-set match at the No. 4 position, 6-7(12), 6-4, 11-9.
Utah's, 4-3, win over the Aggies snapped its seven-match losing streak.
The Utes open Mountain West Conference play against New Mexico in Albuquerque on April 1, at 1 p.m. MT.
