SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior pitcher Jordan Whatcott has been named the Mountain West Conference Pitcher of the Week. It is his first career weekly honor.
Whatcott, from Gilbert, Ariz., scattered four hits in a six-inning stint in Utah's 9-1 non-conference win over Northern Colorado on Saturday. The senior right-hander struck out a season-high six batters without giving up a walk, while holding the Bears to a .190 hitting average. He retired the side in the first, second, third and sixth innings, facing 21 batters overall.
For the year, Whatcott leads the Ute starting pitchers with a 3.06 ERA. He is 3-3 on the season with 22 strikeouts.
The Utes are 12-9 on the season after sweeping the weekend series against Northern Colorado. Utah returns to action on Tuesday, March 30, against Utah Valley at 6:00 p.m.
