SALT LAKE CITY - University of Utah head basketball coach Jim Boylen announced the signing of junior college transfer Will Clyburn to a National Letter of Intent Monday. Clyburn is a 6-foot-6 wing who comes to Utah from Marshalltown Community College in Iowa.
"We are very thankful for Will's commitment, he is a talented player," said Boylen. "He brings length and athleticism and will help address our needs at the offensive end of the floor. He scored 54 points in a game against Southeastern Iowa last year and averaged 19 points per game. He is a proven offensive player and should do very well in our system.
"Much of the credit for Will's commitment goes to our team," Boylen continued. "He built relationships with our players on his official visit, saw their dedication and belief in what we are building, and he wanted to become part of it. It was a huge factor in his decision come to Utah."
Clyburn will be junior upon joining the Utes. He led the Iowa Community College Athletic Conference (ICCAC) in scoring and rebounding both his freshman and sophomore years. Last year, he averaged 19 points, eight rebounds and two assists per game en route to first-team All-ICCAC and first-team All-Region XI honors. Clyburn was also an honorable mention all-conference choice as a freshman.
"My decision to come to Utah came down to my visit," said Clyburn. "I believed in what Coach Boylen was telling me, the team had great chemistry and I am really excited to be a part of that."
Boylen has now added two junior college signees this month, including 6-foot-7 wing Antonio DiMaria (Casper C.C.).
