COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - Sophomore third baseman Whitney Holm has been named the Mountain West Conference Softball Player of the Week, the conference office announced Tuesday. This is the second time Holm has earned the award during her career as she was also honored on Feb. 17, 2009. Three different Utes have won the award in 2010.
Holm, a product of Spanish Fork, Utah, batted .571 while going 4-for-7 at the plate with two doubles, one triple, one RBI and four runs scored as the Utes went 2-1 in conference play last week, including a sweep of New Mexico.
Over the three games, she also tallied a 1.143 slugging percentage and .625 on-base percentage.
In game one of the two-game series at New Mexico, Holm went 1-for-3, with an RBI double while scoring two runs of her own in Utah's 10-2 five-inning win.
In the Utes' 9-1 five-inning game-two victory, Holm went 3-for-3 and was a home run short of the cycle, while plating two runs. She doubled in the first inning, singled in the third and came up with a triple in the fifth inning. Defensively, she had two putouts and one assist from her third base position.
Utah continues its MWC schedule against San Diego State Thursday at 4 p.m. at Ute Softball Field.
