SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team makes the short trip south on Thursday, April 22, to begin a three-game series against rival BYU. First pitch on Thursday is at 6:30 p.m., with Friday's game starting at 6:00 p.m. and Saturday's beginning at 1:00 p.m.
"It's a great rivalry," head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We look forward to the challenge down in Provo this weekend."
Utah has struggled in conference play as of late, dropping five of their last six games. The Utes avoided a sweep at San Diego State last Sunday, winning 5-4 after a ninth-inning rally.
"We're not playing our best baseball right now," Kinneberg said. "Our pitching is still pretty solid and we're playing good defense, but we would like to score a few more runs. We're not capitalizing on our opportunities as much as we should be. Something's got to spark for us."
Friday's game will still be televised live on BYUTV as scheduled, but Saturday's game will not be televised due to programming change by KBYU made early this week.
Brigham Young had an up-and-down week last week, starting the week with a two-game sweep of No. 20 Kansas State before being swept by No. 10 TCU in three games. The Cougars are 16-19 overall and 4-8 in the MWC.
The winner of each game between BYU and Utah earns 1.5 points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU.
