SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (7-15, 2-4 MWC) fell to the No. 33-ranked Brigham Young (21-5, 6-0 MWC) Saturday at the Liberty Park Tennis Center. The match marked the Utah's last home match of the season.

In doubles the No. 2 team of Timmy Allin and Jason Smits were defeated by Daniel Hwang and Georgy Batrakov, 8-5. The Cougars captured the doubles point from the No. 1 position. Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding fell to Thomas Shubert and Cassidy Mears, 8-6.

Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano claimed the No. 3 doubles with a win against Spencer Smith and Evan Urbina, 9-7.

In singles Allin was defeated by Smith, 6-2, 6-3, in the No. 5 slot. BYU continued their lead from the No. 3 position Golding fell to Batrakov, 6-1, 7-6(6). The Cougars clinched the match at 4-0 from the No. 4 slot Suriano was defeated by Mears, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3.

Eilers earned Utah's only point of the day from the No. 1 spot downing Shubert, 3-6, 7-6(6), 6-3.

The Cougars continued with wins from the Nos. 2 and 6 positions. Smits fell to Urbina, 6-3, 5-7, 6-3, and Jacobs was defeated by Hwang, 6-4, 5-7, 6-3.

The Utes will compete in the first round of the Mountain West Conference Championships beginning April 28 in Las Vegas, Nev.
