FORT WORTH, Texas - The University of Utah men's tennis team (6-12, 1-2 MWC) fell in a close match against No. 56-ranked TCU (8-8, 2-1 MWC), 4-3.
The No. 3 doubles team of Stephen Jacobs and Benito Suriano were defeated by Paul Chappell and Zach Nichols, 8-2. Phillip Eilers and Alex Golding fell to No. 61-ranked Emanuel Brighiu and Christopher Price, 8-4, in the No. 1 position.
The Horned Frogs captured the doubles point from the No. 2 slot, Timmy Allin and Jason Smits were defeated in a close match, 8-7, by Cameron Nash and Slah Mbarek.
TCU maintained the lead from the No. 3 position, Golding fell to Mbarek, 6-2, 6-0, giving the Horned Frogs a 2-0 lead over the Utes.
In the No. 1 spot Eilers increased his winning streak to seven straight matches downing Brighiu, 6-3, 6-2, giving Utah their first point.
The Horned Frogs went up 3-1 in the match at the No. 5 spot. Jacobs was defeated by Marius Cristea, 6-4, 6-3.
Freshman Dmytro Mamedov kept the Utes in the match with a win from the No. 6 position. Mamedov topped Kelubia Mebatah, 6-4, 6-3.
TCU clinched the match at 4-2 in the No. 2 position Smits fell to Nichols, 7-5, 7-6. Allin closed the match at 4-3 with a win from the No. 4 slot topping Price, 5-7, 7-6, 1-0.
The Utes will see UT Arlington tomorrow at 2 p.m. CT in Arlington, Texas.
