Utah Baseball Closes Out Regular Season vs. New Mexico
SALT LAKE CITY - Utah sophomore catcher C.J. Cron has been named National Player of the Week by CollegeBaseballInsider.com.
Cron, who was also selected as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week, hit 7-for-15 (.467) in a three-game series with UNLV with four doubles, two homers, six runs and 14 RBI. He posted an on-base percentage of .529 and a slugging percentage of 1.133. In Saturday's win, Cron went 3 for 5 with four runs and eight RBI, including a three-run double in the third and grand slam in the sixth.
In Sunday's victory, Cron's two-RBI double in the top of the ninth inning proved to be the game-winning hit as it provided the final 11-10 margin for the Utes.
Cron currently leads the nation in RBI per game (1.59) and is eighth in home runs per game (0.39).
The Utes close out the regular season this weekend with a three-game series against New Mexico beginning Thursday, May 20 at 6:00 p.m. at Spring Mobile Ballpark.
