Utes Open MWC Tournament With 12-6 Win Over San Diego State
SAN DIEGO - After upsetting third-seeded San Diego State to open the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Tuesday evening, 12-6, the sixth-seeded Ute baseball team takes on No. 1 seed and sixth-ranked TCU tonight at 7:00 p.m. PT. The game will be simulcast by The Mtn. and CBS College Sports with audio available at UtahUtes.com.
Utah will start Jordan Whatcott (5-8, 5.76 ERA) on the mound tonight while TCU starts MWC Freshman of the Year Matt Purke (11-0, 3.51 ERA).
Utah struggled against No. 11 TCU during the regular season (April 30-May 2), falling in all three games, 11-6, 11-4 and 8-2. The bright spot for the Utes was sophomore C.J. Cron, who hit .636 (7-for-11) over the three games with three homers, a double and seven RBI.
BYU leads off Wednesday's action facing San Diego State at 11:00 a.m. today while UNLV faces New Mexico at 3:00 p.m. (all times Pacific). An updated bracket is available above.
