Utes Open MWC Tournament With 12-6 Win Over San Diego State
TCU Downs Utes at MWC Tournament, 13-2
SAN DIEGO - The Utah baseball team is 1-1 in the MWC Tournament after falling to TCU yesterday evening to move into the consolation bracket. Utah takes on BYU at 11:00 a.m. PT to start off today.
Andrew Wilding (4-2, 5.43 ERA) starts on the mound for the Utes while Shawn Hardesty (1-4, 8.07 ERA) gets the start for the Cougars.
If Utah wins its first game, it will play New Mexico beginning at 3:00 p.m. PT.
The Utes went 1-2 against BYU (April 21-23), with a solid win in game two but heartbreaking late-inning losses in the other two games. Utah held a 7-2 lead through seven innings in game one before BYU rallied to win 9-7. A seven-run fourth inning lifted the Utes to an 11-2 win in game two. Rick Anton had a solid outing to shut down the Cougars on the mound and C.J. Cron drove in four RBI with a pair of doubles. In game three, Utah held a 4-3 lead going into the ninth inning before BYU scored three runs for a 6-4 win.
