TUCSON, Ariz. -- Utah sophomore baseball player C.J. Cron has been named to the Louisville Slugger All-America baseball team, announced today by Collegiate Baseball newspaper. Cron was selected as the first-team designated hitter as one of just 17 players in the nation to earn first-team All-America honors.
Cron, the 2010 Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, leads the nation in RBI per game (1.65) and is in the top 10 nationally in slugging percentage (5th, .817), home runs per game (6th, 0.41) and RBI (7th, 81). He leads the conference in slugging percentage, RBI, and home runs (20) while ranking second in batting average (.431). A semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy, given to the top player in collegiate baseball, Cron was named to the MWC All-Tournament team after hitting .667 with eight RBI during the tournament. He plays at catcher, first base and designated hitter for the Utes.
Cron is hitting .379 with 31 home runs and 139 RBI for his career. Last year he was a Freshman All-American and the MWC Freshman of the Year. He was only player in the country last season to have three hits in a game off 2009 MLB No. 1 draft pick Stephen Strasburg.
