SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team released its 2010-11 non-conference schedule today and it has the potential to include as many as seven opponents that reached the postseason last March.
Eleven non-conference opponents are known, while the rest are to-be-determined matchups at the Diamondhead Classic in Honolulu on Dec. 22-25. Possible opponents at the Diamondhead Classic include 2010 NCAA runner-up Butler, NCAA Elite Eight participant Baylor, NCAA qualifier Florida State and NIT qualifier Mississippi State.
The 2010-11 campaign begins on Nov. 5 with an exhibition game against Adams State in the Huntsman Center. Regular season play tips off with a home game on Nov. 12 against Grand Canyon University. Other home games include 2010 NCAA Tournament participant Montana (Nov. 17) and NIT qualifier Weber State (Nov. 20), as well as Oral Roberts (Nov. 27), Fresno State (Nov. 30), Pepperdine (Dec. 7) and Oregon (Dec. 18).
Utah faces a stiff non-conference road schedule with games at 2010 NCAA participant Utah State (Nov. 24), Bradley (Dec. 4) and Michigan (Dec. 10). Utah's game with Bradley is part of the MWC/MVC Challenge.
"We have stayed true to our philosophy of playing a difficult non-conference schedule that includes teams from the top leagues across the country," said Utah head coach Jim Boylen. "Our team and coaching staff are very excited about the opportunity to participate in big games at great venues. Our goal is always to get into the top 25 and compete for an MWC championship. I think this schedule will prepare us to reach both of those goals."
Utah's conference schedule will be released by the Mountain West Conference office in August.
