SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team saw five members of its incoming signing class selected in the 2010 Major League Baseball draft, which concluded on Wednesday.
Josh Alexander (OF, Mountain Pointe HS, Arizona) was the highest player drafted, going in the 19th round (577th overall pick) to the Cincinnati Reds. Dustin Hobbs (RHP, Yavapai College) also went on the second day, going to the New York Yankees in the 21st round (655th pick).
On day three, Ben Mordini (RHP, Cherry Creek HS, Colo.) was picked in the 41st round by the Colorado Rockies (1,250th pick) followed by Trey Nielsen (3B, Skyline HS, Utah) in the 42nd round by the Chicago Cubs (1,270th pick). Derek Christensen (RHP, SLCC, Utah) rounded out the picks in the 44th round (1,305th pick), selected by the Minnesota Twins.
Players have until August 15 to decide whether to pursue professional baseball or enter college.
