TOYKO, Japan - Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg closed out his summer as head coach of the USA Baseball Collegiate National Team with a silver medal at the FISU World Baseball Championship on Saturday.
The USA fell to Cuba in extra innings in the championship game, 4-3. The team went 5-1 during the tournament, defeating Canada, Sri Lanka and Chinese Taipei in pool play before beating Japan and China in the bracket rounds to move into the gold medal game.
For Kinneberg, the year marked his third stint with the USA team and his first as head coach. He served as the pitching coach in 1999 and 2007.
USA Baseball went 16-3 during the summer.
