SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah baseball team has been invited to the 2011 Houston College Classic, one of the most prestigious college baseball tournaments in the country. The Utes will play three games at the Houston Astros' Minute Maid Park from March 4-6, 2011.
"This is the premier college baseball tournament in the country, and we are fortunate to be able to participate," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "We look forward to playing in Minute Maid Park against three really good teams. The tournament will definitely make us better and prepare us for the grind of the Mountain West Conference season."
Also participating in the tournament are Houston, Rice, Texas A&M, Baylor and Kentucky. Rice, Texas A&M and Baylor all participated in the NCAA Championships last season.
Utah finished the 2010 season with a 23-28 record. The Utes' top returning player is All-American C.J. Cron, who led the nation with 1.65 RBI per game last season.
