SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah softball team began practice for the 2011 season this week at Eccles Fieldhouse.
"We're so far ahead of the first practices we've had the last three years," fourth-year Utah head coach Amy Hogue said. "The players are just more ready physically and are more passionate. This is a really passionate group. They wanted to keep practicing. They were off at times today, a little jittery, but they settled in so fast. They're ready to go."
The Utes have nine letterwinners returning, including five starters, and welcome nine newcomers. Their first game is against Ole Miss Thursday, Feb. 10 at the Kajikawa Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. First pitch is at 6:30 p.m. PT.
