SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah men's basketball team (10-11, 3-4 MWC) heads to Las Vegas to take on UNLV (16-5, 4-3 MWC) at the Thomas & Mack Center Wednesday. Tip-off is slated for 8:30 p.m. MT and the the game will be televised live on VERSUS.
Utah will be looking to bounce back from a 74-68 setback at home Saturday against Colorado State. Junior wing Will Clyburn tallied his seventh double-double of the season, leading the Utes with team highs of 19 points and 10 rebounds. Junior guard Josh "Jiggy" Watkins and freshman wing J.J. O'Brien each chipped in 11 points while junior center David Foster blocked four shots.
Clyburn remains Utah's leading scorer and rebounder at 18.9 points and 8.3 rebounds per game, ranking No. 2 in the MWC in each category. Watkins is leading the Utes in assists with 3.3 per game, while Foster leads the team and the MWC in blocks, with 3.1 per contest.
UNLV has won two straight, including a road win at Wyoming, 74-65, and a home victory against New Mexico, 63-62. The Rebels had a bye last weekend and have not played since Jan. 25.
UNLV's top scorer and rebounder is Chace Stanback, who averages 13.1 points per game to go with 5.5 rebounds. Oscar Bellfield tops the roster at 4.0 assists per contest.
Utah won both of the regular-season contests against UNLV last year, including a victory in the Thomas & Mack Center for the first time since 2005. The Rebels then topped Utah in the quarterfinals of the MWC tournament at the Thomas & Mack, 73-61.
The all-time series between the Utes and UNLV is tied at 22-22, while Utah is 7-15 on the Rebels' home court. Utah is 3-5 on the road this year, while UNLV is 8-3 at home.
Utah head coach Jim Boylen, now in his fourth year at the helm for the Utes, owns a 66-53 (.555) record. UNLV is coached by Lon Kruger, now in his seventh season, who owns a 151-68 (.689) record as the Rebels' head coach.
