SALT LAKE CITY - Utah senior outfielder Shaun Cooper has been selected as a Louisville Slugger Preseason All-American, as selected by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Cooper was a third-team pick.
Last year for the Utes, Cooper was a first-team all-Mountain West Conference selection. He finished sixth in the MWC in batting average (.332), third in slugging percentage (.589) and tied for first in triples (7).
Cooper spent his summer with the Mankato Moondogs of the Northwoods League, where he had a league-record 20 home runs, 61 RBI and had 15 stolen bases while batting .335. He was named the 2011 Summer Collegiate Player of the Year by Perfect Game, and was selected as a summer first-team All-America outfielder as well as the top rising senior.
Utah opens the 2012 season at UC Davis on Feb. 17th.
