Utah senior pitcher Stephen Streich will be sharing his thoughts throughout the season on UtahUtes.com in `The Streich Zone.'
Throughout my life I've listened to people talk about the happiest day of their lives. The day they will never forget, and even the slightest thought of can't help but bring a smile to their face. For some it's the day they bought their first car, or maybe their home. For others it's the day they married that special someone.
These people have obviously never been a part of NCAA baseball's opening weekend.
That's right, the wait is almost over, and unlike buying that first house, college baseball's opening weekend comes every spring with high hopes and dreams of Omaha. Oh, and no mortgage.
For us, those dreams started turning colors in the fall, needed hand warmers through winter, and now, well, frankly still might need those hand warmers. (We do live in Utah). Therefore we hit the road, with Berkeley California as our first stop.
No more long days of practice. No more early morning `Ironman' workouts. It's time to grab that uniform, that bottle of SPF 15 sunscreen, and head towards the coast. I can't help but smile.
