As the baseball team starts the 2011 season, UtahUtes.com spotlights a different student-athlete every few days in '10 Questions With...' Today's spotlight is junior transfer Shaun Cooper, who has spent time at Arizona and Pima CC.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Going 5-for-5 in the Connie Mack World Series (tied a record for most hits in a game and set record for three doubles in one game).
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
Get in extra weightlifting, read, spend time helping people out at the gym, cut hair (amateur barber).
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Coop, from my last name. Some people say Coop-a-loop (because it rhymes, I guess).
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
I chose Utah because of its high class facilities and its great coaching staff.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
Its scenery.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
All the teammates who are injured because it is very hard to watch everyone play knowing you can't. It also takes a lot of dedication to get rehab everyday to speed up recovery.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
His knowledge of the game and how he treats everyone equal.
What are your goals for this year?
Win the CWS, hit over .400, hit over 10 home runs, steal over 20 bases, have over 10 assists in the outfield, and stay mentally strong all the time.
What are your pregame superstitions?
I like to shower right before I head to the field. I stretch on my own after team stretch (get my head right for the game).
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
Exercise Sport Science. I plan on being a personal trainer (strength coach for college or professional team, preferably baseball).
