The University of Utah softball team will take on Wisconsin and Florida State in four games this weekend at the Big Ten/Mountain West/ACC Challenge in Tallahassee, Fla.
The Utes open against the Badgers on Saturday at 11 a.m. ET, then the host Seminoles the same day at 3 p.m. ET. Sunday starts with Utah against Wisconsin at 9 a.m. ET before concluding the tournament against Florida State at 11 a.m. ET.
Utah defeated Nevada 10-0 in five innings on Sunday. The Utes scored early and often as Cheyella Myers (Denver, Colo.) connected on her first career grand slam in the third inning and Chalese Fankhauser (South Jordan, Utah) hit her first career round-tripper gave the Utes three more runs in the frame.
Ute Position-by-Position Notebooks
Infield Notebook: Sophomore shortstop Kelsi Hoopiiaina (Riverton, Utah) was Utah's top hitter over the weekend, posting a .375 batting average. She had three hits in eight at-bats, including a 2-for-3 effort at the plate in Utah's 10-0 run-rule against Nevada on Sunday.
Pitching Notebook: Naomi Amu (Oceanside, Calif.) had a 0.64 ERA in 11 innings to go with an RBI single on Thursday against Long Beach State and Virginia.
Against LBSU, Amu pitched her second complete game of the season after going eight innings and only allowing one earned run on seven hits to go with two strikeouts and two walks.
Facing a 5-0 deficit in the eighth inning against the 49ers, Amu stepped to the plate with one out and laced a single to right-center field for her third RBI of the season.
Joni Cook (Eagle, Idaho) collected a pair of singles as well as an RBI Saturday against No. 4/5 Florida. On the mound, Cook had a solid performance in her first start of the season, going 4.1 innings and allowing two earned runs on six hits with two strikeouts.
