Utah senior pitcher Stephen Streich will be sharing his thoughts throughout the season on UtahUtes.com in `The Streich Zone.'
From the moment that alarm goes off in the morning, it starts. Certain guys handle it certain ways. There are those who joke around, trying to keep their mind off of it. There are those who listen to music, zoning everything else out in preparation. And then there are those that meditate, visualizing the upcoming task. There is no right way to go about it, but the hours before a game are filled with anxiety.
Prepping for a game is as unique an experience as you will find in this game.
For me, being a reliever brings a different scenario every day so my routine doesn't start until I get to the ballpark. I stretch with the team and then visualize situations I might enter the game in. While the game is going on I go down to the bullpen to warm up my arm and always go through our pregame stretch one more time.
I caught up with Gavin Green to share what his pregame routine is.
"Wake up, eat breakfast with the last plate being all fruit. I take a long shower, put my uniform on and throw in my headphones, listening to Third Eye Blind. The two songs I listen to every time are `Water Landing' and `God of Win' because they get me pumped. I also try to put my cleats on as late as possible because I don't like them on until game time."
