SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team takes on a new weekday opponent this week, facing Utah Valley on Tuesday, March 29, at 6:00 p.m.
Joe Pond gets the start on the mound for Utah, facing Kyle Beecher for Utah Valley. Pond is coming off his first win of the season against Southern Utah last week. Beecher has a 1-1 record with a 5.40 ERA.
"This game is valuable to us in getting to be a better team, but it's also a chance to get some innings at home," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said.
The Utes (10-9) are coming off a strong series with Air Force, winning the first two games and leading the third before it was halted due to travel plans.
Utah Valley has struggled some this season with a 6-13 record, a far cry from last year's team that went 42-17 overall and led the nation in team batting average. The Wolverines have won three of their past four with wins against Southern Utah and taking two of three against Sacramento State.
