As the baseball team starts the 2011 season, UtahUtes.com spotlights a different student-athlete every few days in '10 Questions With...' Today's spotlight is freshman pitcher Ben Mordini, who has been solid in two appearances on the mound this season.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Pitching at Coors Field in the Colorado Top 50 high school players game.
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
I enjoy the outdoors but occasionally I spend a day inside watching movies.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Italian Stallion. The team found out that I was Italian and the stallion part was made up by Michael Beltran.
Why did you choose Utah?
Because it was close to home and it is very similar to where I grew up.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
It has fairly steady weather compared to Colorado, plus it's very sunny.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
I admire Stephen Streich. He is a genuine leader, gives it to you straight, he is all business on the field and I enjoy listening to the things he has to suggest to me.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
I like that Coach K pushes us to be the best players on and off the field.
What are your goals for this year?
My goals this year are to get comfortable throwing off-speed anytime and throwing the fewest walks on the staff.
What are your pregame superstitions?
Every time I run on or off the field I always jump over the foul line.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
I am undeclared right now but I am interested in architecture and business. After I graduate I want to pursue my goals as a successful businessman whenever I decide to put my effort towards.
