SALT LAKE CITY - Utah baseball player C.J. Cron has been named as the Mountain West Conference Player of the Week for his play against Utah Valley and New Mexico last week. It is his third honor this season and the fourth of his career.
Cron turned in an 8-for-18 (.444) week at the plate while leading Utah to a 3-1 mark on the road, including a three-game sweep of New Mexico. He tallied eight RBI, scored six runs, had three intentional walks with two doubles and two home runs for the week. He registered multiple hits in three of the four games while posting at least one run scored and one RBI in all four contests. Cron finished the week with a .524 on-base percentage and a .889 slugging percentage. Defensively, the junior had 46 putouts at first base, with one assist and no errors.
Cron shares the award with TCU's Jason Coats.
Cron is hitting .478 for the season with a .805 slugging percentage and a .541 on-base percentage, all three which rank among the national leaders.
The Utes (16-13) return to the field on Tuesday evening at BYU for a non-conference game.
