SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team travels to Brigham Young for a Tuesday non-conference tilt with the Cougars, beginning at 6:00 p.m. The game will be televised live on BYU-TV and streamed live at byu.org.
Stephen Streich will make just his second career start in his four seasons at Utah on Tuesday. Utah continues to struggle with depth on the mound, and fans will likely see several pitchers during the game. The Utes will face BYU freshman righty Desmond Poulson.
Utah played BYU earlier this spring in Salt Lake City in a Mountain West Conference series, winning the series 2-1. Utah won game one, 3-2, on a walk-off hit from Michael Beltran. The Utes dropped a late lead in game two after a pair of throwing errors in the top of the ninth allowed BYU to get back into the game before falling, 10-8. Utah overcame the loss to come back with a big win in game three, 15-6, which included a six-run eighth inning.
The Utes posted a three-game sweep of New Mexico this past weekend to continue to retain second place in the MWC. C.J. Cron was named as the MWC Player of the Week for his play against Utah Valley and New Mexico last week. He turned in an 8-for-18 (.444) week at the plate with eight RBI, six runs, two doubles and two home runs for the week.
The winner of each game between BYU and Utah earns 1.5 points in the Deseret First Duel rivalry series between Utah and BYU. Utah holds a 2-1 lead in the baseball portion of the series.
