SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team plays the third of four total games against Utah Valley this season on Tuesday, April 26, at 6:00 p.m.
Freshman Luke West gets his first start of the season for the Utes against the Wolverines.
The two teams have played twice this season with wildly different scores. Utah won 15-3 in Salt Lake City on March 29, while Utah Valley defeated the Utes 12-4 on April 12 in Orem.
Utah took two-of-three from Tulane last weekend, with big wins in the first and third games of the series behind solid pitching. Trey Nielsen earned his first career Mountain West Conference Player of the Week award for his performance last week against Tulane and BYU.
UVU is coming off a series against Chicago State, taking three-of-four from the Cougars.
News and Notes
- C.J. Cron currently has a .469 batting average, which is expected to rank first in the country when the NCAA releases its rankings on Tuesday.
- Cron is tied for the Utah career lead for RBI with 181. He ties Jay Brossman (2004-07) for the mark.
- Trey Nielsen led Utah at the plate against Tulane hitting .556 over three games with two doubles and two home runs, driving in six runs. His .536 slugging percentage is eighth in the MWC while his five home runs are fifth in the conference.
- James Brooks extended his hitting streak to 12 games against Tulane, which is the longest current streak on the team. Brooks is seventh in the conference in batting average (.342).
- Rick Anton is ranked sixth in the MWC in ERA (2.01) and is third in the conference with 61 strikeouts.
