SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent. Ethan Leiter (INF/RHP, Yavapai CC, Osceloa, Ind.) and Ryan Cooperstone (INF, College of Southern Idaho, Chatsworth, Calif.) will join the Utes for the 2012 baseball season.
Leiter, who plays infield and pitches, is currently hitting .292 for the Roughriders this season with 14 RBI and six doubles. He is 2-0 on the mound with a 4.38 ERA. Cooperstone is hitting .353 at CSI. He has six doubles and three triples, going 4-for-5 in stolen bases.
"Both players are athletic infielders who will provide us with options and depth within our infield next year," Kinneberg said.
Leiter and Cooperstone join five players who signed during the early signing period - Kody Davis (2B, Juan Diego HS, Salt Lake City), Parker Morin (C, College of Southern Idaho, Park City, Utah), Keenyn Walker (CF, Central Arizona CC, Salt Lake City), Tony Vocca (RHP/DH, Yavapai CC, Cottonwood, Ariz.) and Jackson Goulder (RHP/OF, Paradise Valley CC, Cave Creek, Ariz.).

ACCAC Sophomore All-Star ... played in 34 games as a freshman, primarily at corner infield positions ... hit .348, recording eight multiple-hit games ... .507 slugging percentage with a .413 on-base percentage ... an all-league baseball player at Penn HS ... hit .403 with three triples, nine doubles and 11 stolen bases as a senior ... helped lead Penn to the 2008 4A Regional Championship (16-0) and the Northern Indiana Conference Championship, hitting .368 with 11 RBI ... also was an all-conference tennis player.
