SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team begins a 15-game road stretch with a three-game series against San Diego State, beginning on Friday, April 8.
"We've had a long home stand, which has been nice, but we have to switch gears and get back into the routine of traveling," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "I don't think it will be much of an adjustment. We did it the first four weekends and will get back into it."
San Diego State is 9-20 on the season, 3-3 in the MWC. The Aztecs took 2-of-3 from New Mexico, but dropped 2-of-3 to BYU.
"No matter how many wins or losses they have, they are still very talented," Kinneberg said. "They have talented players. We're going to have to be prepared and continue to play the way we are."
The Utes (12-10) are currently battling some injuries. C.J. Cron is expected to be back in the lineup on Friday after missing a game following a collision last Friday against UNLV. Two of Utah's starting pitchers, Brock Duke and Zach Adams, remain out with injuries, while outfielder Gavin Green also remains on the sidelines.
"We have lost two, so someone is going to have to fill those gaps for us," Kinneberg said. "Our depth is down, so guys are going to have to come through. It will have to be a team effort."
One player who has stepped up recently is outfielder Austin Shackelford. Shackelford, who scored Utah's only run in Tuesday's exhibition against the Salt Lake Bees with a home run, is hitting .471 over Utah's last five games (8-for-17).
