SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's basketball team has announced the signing of Anthony Odunsi to play for the Runnin' Utes this fall. Odunsi is a 6-foot-3, 200-pound guard out of Fort Bend, Texas.
"We really like Anthony's versatility, he brings a lot to the table," said Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "He is a skilled ball-handler, shooter and defender, who also has great vision and a willingness to pass the ball. Anthony also has unbelievable strength and physical stature for his age, to go with great character. We are really looking forward to his future in this program."
As a senior at Travis High School, Odunsi averaged 18.3 points per game to go with 3.7 rebounds, 3.3 assists and 2.1 steals per contest. He led THS to a 34-5 overall record and a trip to the 5A Region III championship game, earning first-team all-Region and all-District honors for the second straight year.
Odunsi committed to Utah after being pursued by Butler, Colorado State and Penn State this spring. He had originally committed to Iowa State during November's early signing period, but chose to re-open his recruiting.
As a junior, Odunsi was a first-team all-Region and all-District choice after averaging 16.7 points per game to go with 4.2 rebounds and 3.5 assists. When signing with the Cyclones, he was ranked as the sixth-best player in the Houston area (Houstonpreps.net) and among the top 160 players in the nation (HoopsUSA). As a freshman, he was voted the District Newcomer of the Year.
