SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team heads to Texas for its final Mountain West Conference series of the season, taking on eighth-ranked TCU in a three-game series starting Friday, May 13. The Horned Frogs are ranked in the top 10 in each of the four major polls.
Friday's contest will be televised live on The Mtn., with first pitch set for 6:30 p.m. CT (5:30 p.m. MT).
The Utes and Horned Frogs are ranked first and second in the conference and are separated by 1.5 games. TCU is 15-2 on the year, while Utah is 15-5. New Mexico is the only other team with double-digit conference wins, sitting third at 10-11. The top two teams in the conference receive a bye for the MWC Tournament, which begins on Tuesday, May 24.
"I'm very proud that we have put ourselves in a position to make this weekend count for our ball club," Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg said. "This will be a challenge in a great atmosphere against a very good TCU team, so this series will be fun for our team. We have tried to build a schedule so we'd be prepared to compete at the end of the year. We want to continue to get better and get ourselves ready for the tournament."
The Utes lead the MWC with a .305 batting average, while TCU is first in the conference in pitching with a 2.94 team ERA.
TCU plays Baylor on Tuesday before taking on the Utes.
