Utah senior pitcher Stephen Streich will be sharing his thoughts throughout the season on UtahUtes.com in `The Streich Zone.'
As a baseball player there are certain memories that you will never forget. Many of those long summer days get jumbled into one experience, playing here or playing there, but every player has those memories that stick out, for better or for worse.
Coming down here to Fort Worth is one of those memories for me and for the entire 2009 Utah baseball team. It was almost two years ago to the day that we came here for the conference tournament. We were the six seed, and no one gave us a chance to even win a game, let alone do what we did.
But something magical happened here at Lupton Stadium. Something memorable. In a true Cinderella story, the 2009 Utes won the conference tournament for the first time in school history, and advanced to a NCAA regional.
For me, this was the most fun I have ever had on the diamond. To be shrugged off over and over again as a true contender, that group of young men came together and defied the odds. It's the kind of story they make a movie out of, and I am so proud and blessed to have been a part of it.
Coming down here this year for the first time since that magical run puts in perspective just how much a game can change your life. I will forever be connected with those great teammates and even better people.
So, this one's for you guys. I thank you, every single one of you, for the greatest baseball memory of my life. We couldn't have done without you.
