SAN DIEGO - Utah freshman third baseman Trey Nielsen was selected to the Mountain West All-Tournament team following the conclusion of the MWC baseball tournament late Friday night.
Nielsen hit .364 (4-for-11) over Utah's three games with seven RBI, two doubles and a home run. In Utah's opening game on Wednesday against San Diego State, he drove in all seven of the Utes runs in the 7-3 win, hitting a three-RBI double and a grand slam. Nielsen also had a double in Friday's game against TCU.
Nielsen was a second-team all-MWC selection at third base. He hit .318 for the season with nine home runs.
Sixth-seeded New Mexico won the MWC tournament after defeating top seed TCU in the championship game on Friday evening, 4-2.
