DURHAM, N.C. - Utah baseball player C.J. Cron has been selected as one of 30 semifinalists for the 2011 USA Baseball Golden Spikes Award, which is presented to the nation's top amateur baseball player.
Cron, a two-time Mountain West Conference Player of the Year, is also a semifinalist for the Dick Howser Trophy. He leads the nation in slugging percentage (.803) and OPS (on-base plus slugging percentage, 1.320), while ranking third in the nation in batting average (.434). Cron also ranks in the top 10 nationally in doubles (26), on-base percentage (.571) and total bases (159). He led the MWC in batting average, slugging percentage, on-base percentage, hits, RBI, home runs, and total bases.
The semifinalists are narrowed to three finalists on Monday, June 6, while the winner will be announced on July 15.
