SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's basketball team released its complete 2011-12 schedule dates Friday. In addition to their slate of Pac-12 conference games as inaugural members of the league, the Runnin' Utes will play six non-conference home games, including a Dec. 10 match-up against rival BYU.
"We have put together a challenging schedule and we are excited to get going this fall," said Utah head coach Larry Krystkowiak. "There are several teams on our non-conference schedule who finished at or near the top of their conference last year and could be preseason favorites again this year. Then in the Pac-12, there are no easy games and several of those teams are traditionally among the toughest in the nation."
Utah's non-conference home games include: Adams State (Nov. 4, exhibition), San Diego Christian College (Nov. 14), Montana State (Nov. 19), Cal State Fullerton (Dec. 7), BYU (Dec. 10), Idaho State (Dec. 16) and Portland (Dec. 19). The Utes' non-conference road games include trips to Boise State (Nov. 16), Fresno State (Dec. 3) and Weber State (Dec. 22).
Utah will also play three neutral site games at the "Battle 4 Atlantis" tournament in the Bahamas, Nov. 24-26. Opponents are yet to be determined, but the field includes reigning NCAA champion UConn, Central Florida, the College of Charleston, Florida State, Harvard, UMass and UNC Asheville.
"We are very excited for the Battle 4 Atlantis as well," said Krystkowiak. "There will be some nationally competitive teams there, including last year's NCAA champion, and it should be a great trip for our team and our fans."
Utah will play its first Pac-12 game on the road, Dec. 31 at Colorado. The Utes' first Pac-12 home contest will be Jan. 5 against Washington State.
