SALT LAKE CITY - Utah head baseball coach Bill Kinneberg has announced the signing of Tanner Tripp to a National Letter of Intent. Tripp, who spent last season at South Mountain Community college, will join the Utes for the 2012 baseball season.
Tripp earned first-team all-region and all-conference honors following his sophomore campaign at South Mountain. He went 12-1 in 15 games with a 1.11 ERA and 56 strikeouts, while walking just 19. Tripp led the Arizona Community College Athletic Conference in both ERA and wins.
"Tanner has continued to develop since high school through a tremendous work ethic," Kinneberg said. "His biggest asset is his ability to throw strikes and change speeds."
The Chandler, Ariz., native played at Corona Del Sol High School, leading the Aztecs to the 2009 5A-I state championship.
Tripp is the eighth member of the 2012 signing class.
