SALT LAKE CITY - A total of 13 Utah baseball players earned academic honors from the Mountain West Conference this week. The Utes had 12 players selected to the spring Academic All-MWC team, while four players were named MWC Scholar-Athlete Award honorees.
Shaun Cooper, Blake Golding, Joe Pond and Luke West were named as MWC Scholar-Athletes. Cooper, Pond, West, Josh Alexander, Rick Anton, Michael Beltran, James Brooks, Josh Chapman, C.J. Cron, Cody Guymon, Ben Mordini and Austin Shackelford were named to the Academic All-MWC team.
To be eligible for Academic All-MWC, student-athletes must have completed at least one academic term while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and be a starter or significant contributor to their team. The MW Scholar-Athlete Award is one of the highest academic honors bestowed by the conference. To be eligible for selection, student-athletes must have completed at least two academic terms at the member institution, while maintaining a cumulative grade point average of 3.5 or better, and have participated in varsity competition in an NCAA-sponsored sport.
