Summer Ball and Minor League Update

Several current Utes are currently playing around the country in summer ball, while Utah has a number of former players in the minor leagues. Follow the links at the bottom for a full list and more information.
Jo Jo Sharrar (San Luis Obispo Blues) was named to the California Collegiate League All-Star Game, which will be held July 13. The game will be televised live on the Fox Sports Networks. Sharrar leads the team with a .370 batting average, seven doubles and 18 RBI.
Shaun Cooper (Mankato Moondogs) was selected to the Northwoods League All-Star Game. Cooper leads the league in home runs (11) and RBI (33), while ranking third in batting average (.362).
In the minors, 2011 draftees C.J. Cron and Rick Anton remain in Utah with their respective minor league teams. Cron has had a solid start with the Orem Owlz, hitting .372 with three home runs and 10 RBI in his first 10 games. Anton has a 2.45 ERA with the Ogden Raptors, with 10 strikeouts in 11 innings. He has made four starts.
Ryan Khoury has had a whirlwind summer, returning to the Red Sox organization on June 22 after being released following spring training. He has played with both the Double-A Portland Sea Dogs and Triple-A Pawtucket Red Sox.
Also with the Portland Sea Dogs is Stephen Fife, who is 10-3 with a 3.59 ERA.
Brian Budrow started the year with South Bend before advancing to play for the Visalia Rawhide. Jordan Whatcott has made 25 appearances for the Clearwater Threshers.
Jay Brossman, who spent five years in the minor leagues, retired at the end of May.
