SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah softball team began preparing for its inaugural Pac-12 Conference season this week at Eccles Fieldhouse. The Utes capped their first week of practice with an intrasquad scrimmage on Friday.
"There was a lot of good stuff happening this week," fifth-year Utah head coach Amy Hogue said. "This is the time of year where we find out what kind of depth we have and how best use the talent on this team. It's a nice issue to have as many talented players as we have and now it's my job to figure out how to use all of them."
The Utes have 12 letterwinners returning, including six starters, and welcome seven newcomers.
Their first game is against former Mountain West Conference foe San Diego State on Friday, Feb. 10 at the Kajikawa Tournament in Tempe, Ariz. First pitch is at 11:30 a.m.
