With the new year beginning and baseball season right around the corner, UtahUtes.com will introduce you to the new players on the team in 'Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is junior pitcher Tanner Tripp.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
Winning state my senior year of high school.
What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
Basketball, I love NCAA basketball.
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
Hang out with friends, play FIFA and get swoll in the weight room.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Tripp, Trippy, Tripp-out - basically any variation of my last name. Guys on the team got bored of my first name.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
A chance to play in the Pac and play the schools from back home that overlooked me. The best thing is how our team is close to one another.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My dad has helped me through struggles in baseball and in life in general. He truly shaped me into who I am today, with help from my mom of course.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
How laid back the city is. It's calm and has nice views everywhere.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Joe Pond, he has a great work ethic in the weight room and on the field. He has a great drive after coming back from Tommy John surgery.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
He is very calm and relaxed but knows when to turn it on and get us fired up. This trickles down and makes us better as a team.
What are your goals for this year?
Have a sub-three ERA and get at least eight wins.
What are your pregame superstitions?
I don't have many, but I always listen to music before games, mainly hip-hop.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
My major is business administration, hopefully I can relate it to sports and do something I enjoy after I graduate.
