As a team, the Utes hit four of their seven shots (57.1%) in the extra period and limited Washington to only three field goal attempts in the final five minutes.
Watkins posted a team-high 20 points and corralled a career-high-tying seven rebounds to go along with a team-high six assists. The performance was Watkins' 10th 20-point game of his career and his fourth this season. He has reached double-figures 11 times this season and 35 times over his career.
Junior center Jason Washburn turned in 11 points and tied his season-high mark with two blocks. He connected on three of his first four shots and made five of his nine shots overall. Cedric Martin turned in career-high performances in two categories with a team-high eight rebounds and five assists.
A 7-0 Utah run, including a Watkins' 3-pointer and a Washburn jumper, gave the Utes their first lead of the game at 10-7. The Cougars countered with a 7-2 lead to regain the lead (14-12), but an alley oop from Kareem Storey jammed home by Farr tied the contest for the first time at 14 points apiece. The game would be tied two more times before an 11-2 run gave Utah a 29-23 edge. Watkins posted a team-high 10 points as the Utes shot 50.0% from the floor and only turned the ball over three times, while WSU had eight turnovers.
