LAS VEGAS - The University of Utah men's tennis team saw No. 37 second-seeded sophomore Slim Hamza advance to the consolation singles finals after capturing two consecutive victories Saturday at the ITA Mountain Regional Championships at the Darling Tennis Center.
In the consolation singles quarterfinals, Hamza routed New Mexico's Riaan Du Toit, 6-1, 6-3, then netted a hard-fought 3-6, 6-2, 6-0 victory over Jose Bendeck of Idaho in the semifinals. Hamza will face 25th-seeded Moez Charqui of Nevada Reno Sunday in the final round at 10 a.m.
In doubles play, sixth-seeded junior Devin Lane and Hamza suffered a tight 9-8 upset to seventh-seeded Abid Akbar and Marius Cirstea of Idaho in the semifinals.
