Baseball Wraps Up Fall Team Practice

SALT LAKE CITY - The Utah baseball team closed out its fall team practices last week. Utah head coach Bill Kinneberg was pleased with the progress that the team made during the fall campaign.
"We accomplished a lot," Kinneberg said. "We had 27 great team practices this year, which created a lot of competition. We'll be prepared to go into our next phase of fall and ultimately get ready for our first game in the spring.
"With 17 new players, there was more teaching and learning," continued Kinneberg. "The learning curve was much greater this fall than it's ever been, but that was a good situation for the coaching staff because we had to do a better job coaching this fall. It was a good situation for us. We have more team speed than we've ever had, and I feel like that's going to help us on the offensive and defensive side. We feel at this point our pitching staff is very good with quality depth."
Although team practices have concluded, the players continue individual workouts throughout the fall and winter before spring practices begin.
Key returning players for Utah include pitchers Zach Adams, Brock Duke, Joe Pond and Mitch Watrous, as well as two-year starting third baseman Trey Nielsen.
The Utes open their 2013 campaign at Loyola Marymount on February 15.
