SALT LAKE CITY - The University of Utah men's tennis team (6-2) downed Northern Arizona (2-4) by a score of 6-1, Friday at the Eccles Tennis Center. After earning the doubles, the Utes netted three-straight singles victories. Junior Dmytro Mamedov earned the match clinching point at 4-0 from the No. 2 position.

The Utes started out strong in doubles, earning the point in two matches. Sophomore Devin Lane and freshman Slim Hamza earned the first Ute victory of the evening, topping Patrick Schimmelbauer and Ben Lantz at the No. 3 spot, 8-2.

Sophomore Alejandro Medinilla and freshman Ace Matias then followed with an 8-3 victory over Dominic Bermudez and Robin Pezzutto at the second slot to earn the doubles point for the Utes. Senior Benito Suriano and Mamedov then downed Shaun Waters and Trevor Unger, 8-5, at the No. 1 position.

Going into singles play with a 1-0 advantage, the Utes earned three-straight singles victories, starting with Hamza's 6-1, 6-2 win over Waters at the No. 3 slot.

Freshman Rafael Davidian then downed Unger at the sixth spot, 6-1, 6-4, making the score 3-0 in favor of Utah. Mamedov then decided the match at 4-0 with a 6-4, 6-2 victory over Bermudez at the No. 2 position.

At the top spot, Suriano managed to top Pezzutto 7-5 in the first set, but fell in the second set 3-6. He then rallied back in the third set for a 10-4 win. Lane then extended the Utes' win to 6-0, defeating Robert Martin, 6-2, 7-6, at the No. 5 position.

Northern Arizona saw their single point at the No. 4 spot, when Matias suffered a hard-fought 6-7, 7-6, 10-2 loss to Schimmelbauer, making the final score 6-1, Utah.
