With baseball season under way, UtahUtes.com has a few more newcomers left for 'Getting to Know.' Today's spotlight is freshman pitcher Mitch Watrous.
What is your favorite baseball memory?
The first time I ever pitched when I was about 10 years old.
What is your favorite sport besides baseball?
Bowling, basketball.
What do you like to do when you are not playing baseball?
Hang out with buddies; basketball, bowling.
Do you have a nickname? How did you get your nickname?
Earl, Gerald. Earl is my middle name. The team likes to call me Gerald.
Why did you choose Utah? What is the best thing about Utah?
Great DI college, Pac-12. It's where I am from and have great talent here. I've always been a Ute fan.
Who has been the biggest influence in your life and why?
My father because he has always been there at my games and taught me the game.
My favorite thing about Salt Lake City is:
It's where I grew up, it's a nice place to live.
The teammate I most admire is who, and why?
Tyler Wagner - he always pushes me to get better and treats freshmen equal as if we were upperclassmen.
What do you like best about Coach Kinneberg?
Always striving to get better each day and he pushes us to be good in the classroom and on the field.
What are your goals for this year?
To get some innings and go out there with no fear and help our team win.
What are your pregame superstitions?
Think about how hard I've worked to get to each game and I always clear my mind of everything.
What is your major and what do you want to do after you graduate?
Undecided so far. I want to do anything that deals with the game of baseball.
