The University of Utah softball team will start its first-ever Pac-12 Conference series TONIGHT against No. 3 Washington in Seattle.
The three-game series will be played Friday at 6 p.m. PT, Saturday at 4 p.m. PT and the finale will be on Sunday at 12 p.m. PT.
The Utes are 21-5 overall this season after sweeping a doubleheader from Southern Utah in their home opener after going 4-2 during their spring break trip to Fort Myers, Fla.
Utah has won four straight games and 17 of its last 19.
Power Surge: The Utes tied the school record with six round-trippers in the second contest and combined for eight in the doubleheader against Southern Utah.
Utah hit six round-trippers in a game twice before: Mar. 31, 2007 against St. Mary's and April 30, 2010 versus Colorado State.
The Utes are now fourth in the Pac-12 with 32 home runs hit this season.
Road Utes: Utah is 2-1 in true road contests this season, picking up wins at UNC Greensboro (3-1 on Feb. 25) and No. 24 New Mexico (6-1 on Mar. 4).
Fast Starts: The Utes have scored first in 16 of 26 games this season and are 14-2 in those contests.
Utah has managed to score in the first inning seven times this year and is 6-1 when tallying a run in the first frame.
Hitting Through Hoops: Junior shortstop Kelsi Hoopiiaina (Riverton, Utah) went 5-for-7 at the plate in the two games Wednesday against Southern Utah with hit three home runs for three RBI.
Hoopiiaina has seven home runs this season and has hit 15 round-trippers over her career. She hit a grand slam that proved to be the game-winning in Utah's 5-1 victory over Howard on Saturday.
Nielson Is the Reigning Pac-12 Pitcher of the Week: Senior right-hander Generra Nielson (Blanding, Utah) picked up the win in the first contest of the SUU doublheader as she posted a 1.17 ERA through 6.0 innings of work during the day.
Nielson allowed one earned run on four hits, while striking out nine SUU hitters and walking two. With the win in the first game, Nielson moved to 15-2 this season and 36-16 during her Utah career.
Nielson became the first-ever Utah softball athlete to earn a weekly honor from the Pac-12 as she was named the Pitcher of the Week on Mar. 19.
She threw a no-hitter in the first game of the Mar. 12 doubleheader against Colgate. The no-hitter was the second of her Utah career, and the 25th in school history.
Nielson has nine games of 10 or more strikeouts this season and she has reached that mark 14 times over her career.
